Famous for the mountain jump, Cadwell Park, located in the Lincolnshire Wolds, is one of the tightest circuits on the calendar. After racing the circuit on the smaller Moto3 bike, the track felt completely different on a heavier and faster bike.
I have worked hard on my strength, and continue to do so. It’s made a huge difference for me, especially on the technical Cadwell Park circuit. With a storm on the way, It looked like FP2 would be cancelled, therefore FP1 would be more important than normal. I built my pace up and felt great on the bike.
After heavy rain overnight, the track was damp in the morning, but it would dry by the time qualifying started. I set some great times at the start of the session, moving up to the top end of the combined session and also 3rd in class. As the session went on, I dropped a few places. After improving in several areas, I struggled to put a lap together. Finishing the session in 5th.
I felt confident for the first race, getting a great start and putting myself between two groups, I didn’t have the pace to stay with the front guys but I was running in 3rd position. I continued to extend the gap from behind and finished the race on the podium.
Overnight I worked hard with the team to understand where I was losing time and how I could improve. I put these together in the warm-up and felt great with the bike. I managed to stay with the front group from the start of the race. With better pace, I felt the best I’d been all season. Unfortunately, I made a mistake and crashed out of the race.
I learnt a lot this weekend and that’ll help me, especially as the next round is a circuit that I have raced at already on the Moto2.
